Matthew Brandt (b. 1982, Los Angeles, CA) received his BFA from Cooper Union and MFA from UCLA. Brandt has been the subject of recent institutional solo shows at the Columbus Museum of Art; Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art and SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah. Recent group exhibitions include What is a Photograph? at the International Center of Photography, New York; The Magic Medium at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Light, Paper, Process: Reinventing Photography at the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; Second Chances at the Aspen Art Museum and Land Marks at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Armand Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art; Cincinnati Art Museum; and North Carolina Museum of Art, among others. Brandt is shortlisted this year for the prestigious Prix Pictet award and will have his work showcased in an exhibition at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in November 2015. Ellen Carey (b. 1952, New York, NY) received her BFA from Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, MO and MFA from The State University of New York at Buffalo. Her work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions at such institutions as the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, CT and International Center of Photography, New York, among others. In spring 2016, a selection of Carey's Self-Portraits will be presented in the thematic exhibition, The Society of the Spectacle at Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris. The forthcoming Polaroid Project show at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will also include her work. Recent group shows include The Edge of Vision: The Rise of Abstraction in Photography at the Aperture Foundation, New York; Part Picture at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto; Wish You Were Here: The Buffalo Avant-Garde in the 1970s at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo and The Persistence of Geometry at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Jessica Eaton (b. 1977, Regina, Saskatchewan) received her BFA in Photography from the Emily Carr Institute in Vancouver, British Columbia. She has exhibited in numerous international solo and group exhibitions, with recent institutional shows including Wild Permutations at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland (traveling); Flash: Jessica Eaton at the UCR/California Museum of Photography; With a Trace at the Akron Art Museum, Ohio; Under Construction - New Positions in American Photography at Pioneer Works Center for Art and Innovation, New York; Color Acting at the Museum of Fine Arts, Florida and Process and Abstraction at the Cleveland Museum of Art's Transformer Station, Ohio. Her work is held in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Canada, Ontario; Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, Florida; the UBS Art Collection, New York and Bidwell Projects, Cleveland. Eaton has received grants from Canada Council for the Arts (2011), Humble Arts Foundation (2011) and was recently awarded a Darling Foundry studio for 2013-2016. Recently profiled as the "the hottest photographic artist to come out of Canada since Jeff Wall" by The Guardian, other notable reviews and profiles include ARTINFO Canada's "Top 12 Shows of 2012," Canadian Art, The Believer Logger, The Guardian, The New Yorker, Foam, The British Journal of Photography (cover March 2012), ARTnews (cover image March 2011), BlackFlash, Border Crossing, Colour Magazine and Lay Flat 02: Meta. Whitney Hubbs (b. 1977, Los Angeles, CA) received her MFA from UCLA and her BFA from California College of the Arts, San Francisco. Recent solo and group exhibitions include Flash: Whitney Hubbs at the California Museum of Photography, Riverside; New Babylon, Roberts and Tilton, Los Angeles; Collaborations, NYC, Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Photography Sees the Surface, High Pictures, New York; The Black Mirror, curated by James Welling and Diane Rosenstein, Diane Rosenstein Fine Art, Los Angeles; and De-Mobbing: Landscape, Structure, Bioform, Headlands Center for the Arts, San Francisco. Notable press includes a highlight in Vince Aletti's "Eight Emerging Photographers from Southern California" for The New Yorker, a feature in Blind Spot Issue 38, and selection as a "Must-See L.A. Gallery Exhibition" by ARTINFO. Whitney Hubbs lives and works in Los Angeles.
Matthew Porter (b. 1975, State College, PA) received his BA from Bard College and his MFA from Bard-ICP. His most recent show was a critic's pick in ARTFORUM (April 2014). Recent exhibitions include Under Construction - New Positions in American Photography, a group exhibition at Foam in Amsterdam that then traveled to the Pioneer Works Center for Art and Innovation in Brooklyn; After Photoshop at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Spook Rock Road Josephine Meckseper, Steven Parrino, Matthew Porter, Richard Prince, Blair Thurman and Kaz Oshiro, Galerie Frank Elbaz, Paris; Alterations: Built, Blended, Processed, University Galleries, Florida Atlantic University; and Perspectives at the International Center of Photography Museum, New York. Porter's work is held in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Sir Elton John Photography Collection; the UBS Art Collection, New York; the Statoil Collection, Norway and the Traina Collection, San Francisco. Porter's curatorial projects include Soft Target, organized with Phil Chang at M+B, Los Angeles; Seven Summits at Mount Tremper Arts, New York; The Crystal Chain at Invisible Exports, New York and Bedtime for Bonzo at M+B, Los Angeles, which was a critics' pick in ARTFORUM.
